On June 11th in Church History from LDS Gifts

  • 1829: Joseph Smith obtains a copyright for the Book of Mormon.
  • 1895: Johan M Lindelof is baptized in St. Petersburg Russia. Johan is the first convert in Russia.
  • 1917: Joseph B. Wirthlin is born in Salt Lake City. He would later serve in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
  • 1978: The first stake in Ecuador is organized in Guayaquil.

On June 10th in Church History from LDS Gifts

  • 1844: The Nauvoo Expositor is deemed a public nuisance by the Nauvoo City Council and the press is destroyed. This action begins the process that lead to the death of the Prophet Joseph and Hyrum Smith.
  • 1883: The first stake in Colorado is organized in San Louis.
  • 1981: The first stake in Portugal is organized in Lisbon.

  • 1830: The Church holds its first conference in Fayette, New York.
  • 1853: J. Golden Kimball is born in Salk Lake City. He would later serve as a member of the First Presidents of the Seventy.
  • 1878: Orrin Porter Rockwell dies. He had served as the bodyguard to Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. At the time of his death he had been a member of the Church longer than anyone to that time.
  • 1895: The first stake in Canada is organized in Alberta. There are now more than 50 stakes and districts.
  • 1901: The first stake in Oregon is organized in Union.
  • 1907: Harold B. Lee is baptized in Idaho. He would later serve as President of the Church.
  • 1974: The first stake in Ireland is organized in Belfast.

  • 1900: Missionary Training Classes are announced by the First Presidency. This is the beginning of missionary training programs.
  • 1978: A letter from the First Presidency announces that all worth male members of the Church may be ordained to the priesthood.

  • 1981: The first stake in Italy is organized in Milan. There are now 6 stakes in Italy.

On June 6th in Church History from LDS Gifts

  • 1831: Section 52 of the Doctrine and Covenants is received regarding travel to Missouri and a promise of the Lord to reveal the location of Zion.
  • 1833: A group, including Hyrum Smith, are appointed to oversee the building of the Kirtland Temple.
  • 1840: The first group of LDS Saints from Europe to gather to the US leaves from Liverpool, England.
  • 1878: George Albert Smith is baptized in City Creek in Salt Lake City. He is the third of four consecutive presidents of the Church baptized in the same location.
  • 1897: For the first time since being expelled from Missouri, a branch of the Church is organized in Independence Missouri.

On June 1st in Church History from LDS Gifts

  • 1801: Brigham Young is born in Whittingham, Vermont. He would later serve as the 2nd President of the Church.
  • 1833: Section 95 of the Doctrine and Covenants is received.
  • 1915: President Joseph F. Smith dedicates a spot for the Laie Hawaii Temple.
  • 1969: The first stake in Arkansas is organized.
  • 1983: The Atlanta Georgia Temple is dedicated by Gordon B. Hinckely.
  • 1997: The St. Louis Missouri Temple is dedicated by Gordon B. Hinckley.

  • 1864: Heber J. Grant is baptized in City Creek in Salt Lake City. he was the second of four consecutive prophets to be baptized in this location.
  • 1874: Over 100 Goshute Indians are baptized in one meeting in Utah.

  • 1887: Charles Ora Card along with a group of eight families camps near Lee's Creek in Alberta Canada. Under the direction of President John Taylor they select a site and start a city that is later known as Cardston.
  • 1973: The first stake in El Salvador is created in San Salvador. There are now 13 stakes in El Salvador.

  • 1810: Truman Angel is born in Rhode Island. He would later serve as the architect of the Salt Lake Temple.
  • 1846: U.S. President James K. Polk agrees to enlist between 500 and 1000 LDS men to serve in the Mexican War.
  • 1847: The second wagon train led by Parley P. Pratt and John Taylor leaves Winter Quarters for Salt Lake City.
  • 1887: The first ward in Mexico is organized in Colonia Juarez.
  • 1976: The Teton Dam near Rexburg Idaho bursts. Henry B. Eyring, college President turns Ricks College into a refuge for nearly 2000 people.
  • 1994: President Howard W. Hunter is set apart as the 14th president of the Church.
