On June 9th in Church History from LDS Gifts

  • 1830: The Church holds its first conference in Fayette, New York.
  • 1853: J. Golden Kimball is born in Salk Lake City. He would later serve as a member of the First Presidents of the Seventy.
  • 1878: Orrin Porter Rockwell dies. He had served as the bodyguard to Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. At the time of his death he had been a member of the Church longer than anyone to that time.
  • 1895: The first stake in Canada is organized in Alberta. There are now more than 50 stakes and districts.
  • 1901: The first stake in Oregon is organized in Union.
  • 1907: Harold B. Lee is baptized in Idaho. He would later serve as President of the Church.
  • 1974: The first stake in Ireland is organized in Belfast.
